Dr Usui's Reiki Manual Discovered !

In 1998 there was a startling discovery that was to change the Reiki world as we know it.

Dr Allan Sweeney was the first person not living in Japan to be given Dr Usui's 'manual', more than 70 years after his death. And, to prove its authenticity, it is in 70 year old Japanese language and in Dr Usui's own handwriting! It seems that destiny has led Allan Sweeney and Akiko Ono to 'discover' this amazing manual, Or perhaps Allan and Akiko were guided in a very wonderful way. This is how the 'discovery' came about.

In May 1998, Akiko Ono was about to fly to Japan to visit her mother. Akiko is one of Allan's successful Reiki students. She works with about 40 patients, seven days a week, in her London Reiki practice What is more, her personality and character traits are like beautified flowers from heaven! As has Allan, she has dedicated her life to helping others with Reiki healing energy.

Allan has been guided since Dr Usui appeared to him on his Karuna course, telling him in no uncertain terms that he was worthy enough to teach Reiki. (Allan didn't think so at that time.) Since then, many students have seen Dr Usui appear on Allan's courses, and even on Allan's face. Often when this happened, Allan channeled direct from Dr Usui, and taught something different to his previous understanding. These channellings were later proved to be how Dr Usui taught.

Before Akiko left for Japan, Allan arranged to meet her over dinner in London where he presented her with a list of many questions concerning unclear issues about Reiki and Reiki's uncertain history. It was known since the publication of 'Reiki Fire' last year that Dr Usui had started his own Reiki society in Japan, and was its first President before he died in 1926; that the 7th President is now in office; and that various people from the West, including a representative of Phyllis Furumoto (Takata's grand-daughter) was turned away because the Japanese do not want to be tainted by Western differences. Akiko said that she did not know how to go about finding the answers in Japan. Allan replied that all is well, that she would be guided. He did not realise at that time that the guidance would come from him....on three different occasions.

In Japan, Akiko still had no clue as to how to discover the answers to Allan's questions. But she remembered Allan saying that she would be guided. And she felt guided to pick up her local phone directory.

Akiko said that, as she flicked through the pages, she became aware of a hand taking hers. (She is convinced it was Allan's left hand.) The hand guided her to a certain page and a certain phone number.

When the person answered, Akiko had a huge, and very pleasant, surprise. It was the Chief Student of the 6th President of Dr Usui's society! He is hardly ever at home, but was there for just half an hour!

In Japan, the culture of society often means that you cannot just knock on someone's door. In cases like this, you must usually first know their name and address; then know one of their friends who sees whether the person will see you; then receive a written invitation if the person agrees to meet you.

However, Akiko's 'little flower of heaven' nature must have been felt on the other end of the phone. The Chief Student (at present it is not appropriate to give his full details) invited her out to dinner. And during dinner he invited her to a lecture about the History of Reiki as taught by Dr Usui's own Society!

It was during the meeting that Akiko saw Allan appear like a guide, nest to the Chief Student. Akiko was then given a huge amount of information in Japanese, including the Chief Student's Reiki manuals! And Dr Usui's 'Reiki Ideals' in the almost obsolete style of Dr Usui's own hand-writing!

Another of Allan's questions for Akiko to discover was about the mountain where Dr Usui discovered Reiki. Akiko was advised by the Chief Student that of a spot on the mountain connected to Dr Usui and his attunements, and where his Society still attunes people today. So she travelled to Mt Kurama.

Mt Kurama is high, wooded, and the path is steep. Not for the faint-hearted. As she climbed up the mountain, a little breathless, Akiko saw steep stairs rising to the right. She thought that she would have to rest.

Then, as she looked ahead, she saw a figure app ear. Akiko peered hard St the figure. Akiko thought, 'Is that you Allan!' She peered again. It was. This was to be the third occasion she would be guided by Allan.

The figure strode away, not up the steep steps to the right, but to the left, through some woods. Akiko though 'If Allan is going that way, I had better follow him!' It was a short cut, leading direct to the spot where Dr Usui discovered Reiki!!

Later, Akiko paid homage and respect at Dr Usui's grave and tombstone.

Back in England, Akiko and Allan met to discuss the discoveries in a London restaurant neither had been to before, The inside walls were covered in Japanese writing, in the obscure style written by Dr Usui 70 years ago, It seemed to be destiny showing that things had been successful, according to plan.

Since then, Allan and Akiko have received further help. The Chief Student posted them a copy of Dr Usui's Manual, in Dr Usui's own hand-writing! It is a substantial manual, with 25 information packed pages. Many advanced healing techniques are given. It is in the near obsolete style used 70 years ago, so is taking a great deal of time - and expertise - to translate. A few of the points translated so far are:

  • 1. The first thing Reiki practitioners should do is to give Reiki privately to their family.
  • 2. What is Reiki. (Not translated in full yet)
  • 3. The purpose of Reiki.
  • 4. How to give Reiki.
  • 5. Dr Usui said that Reiki is to be used to cure,
  • 6. Practitioners should not only use their hands to give Reiki; they should give Reiki healing by looking at things and illnesses through their eyes. Reiki will flow from both the hands and the eyes.
  • 7. Hands should not always be still, but be used in three different ways - vibration, tapping, and kneading.
  • 8. If there is a head or stomach ache, hands go to those places - a full Reiki treatment should not be given.

As previously mentioned, Allan has taught many of Dr Usui's techniques on his courses, because Dr Usui has been kind enough to help through channelling, Allan was surprised to learn that all of the above have been taught or used by him on his Reiki courses.

Excitingly for Reiki practitioners everywhere, not only is there much more to be translated from the manual already in our possession. Another of Dr Usui's manuals is arriving from Japan soon... Symbols will also be released...And the Chief Student has invited Allan to Japan ...Watch this space!
